HAPPY HOLIDAYS 2009

(A copy of our 2009 Holiday Letter)

Every year, I start my Holiday letter by making a statement about how fast the year has gone by, 2009 is no exception.

This year, however, not only am I going to start out my holiday letter about 2009, I am stating how thankful I am for the many things that I am blessed with. As each year passes, I get more and more frustrated with the premature Christmas festivities and the constant reminders of “black Friday” while Thanksgiving gets completely forgotten in the Christmas hoopla. This year was no exception, except I think Halloween even got the shaft.

On Thanksgiving this year, my oldest Brother Larry was one of the few who actually stated what he was Thankful for when asked. While the rest of us stammered around like we were giving a presidential address, Larry gave the most heartfelt Thanks. Ironically he would have a heart attack just two days later. This year I am extremely grateful for him. I am grateful for his continued recovery. I am grateful for the love and the support of my friends and family who knew my brother was sick and made sure they said lots of prayers. I am grateful for my brother George who stayed with Larry for three days. I am grateful for my sister-in-law Barb who is a great wife to my brother.

Speaking of families, The Stock side of the family had the BEST get together for Ray and Julie’s Anniversary at the Landauer campgrounds in Fremont in July. Great food, wonderful family and the Pfeifer’s were there to celebrate with us. (ps…the Landauer Campground is Ron’s youngest sister’s house..hehe) We all spent the weekend camped out either in a tent, camper or John and Angie’s house, while the kids played outside and made a HUGE mud hole in the Landauer’s backyard with their Slip N Slide, us “Adults” managed to “entertain” ourselves by playing a game that involved knocking bottles off of sticks. I can tell you that one certain girl was VERY GOOD at this ☺

On another Stock note…Ron and I were so honored to become Godparents for the 6th time to Jack Landauer. We were able to host Jack’s baptism dinner at our home and our so honored to be this beautiful little mans Godparents…….

In June, we lost our faithful longtime friend our cat Button who was a part of our life for over 15 years, ironically the same weekend that we lost Button, I had brought home a little puppy that we named Cheerio. Cheerio is named after my favorite driver Clint Bowyer who drives the Sprint Cup car sponsored by Cheerios, thus the name - Cheerio. It has been quite the challenge training and teaching the little boy, but he certainly is a good dog. Which makes our little fur babies, our dog Buddy, our cat’s McCook and Buttercup and now Cheerio………
RIP our sweet Princess Button. I Miss her sooooo much. She was my constant companion and just the best Cat in the world! We got Cheerio on June 23rd and came home from the lake to find that Button had passed on June 26th. I think there was a reason that out of the blue I ended up getting a puppy……..

As for Ron, he is his usual busy self. If he isn’t working you might find him boating on Duncan Lakes or flying our plane to and from somewhere. He has been busy with the launch of another side of Stock Realty and Auction called Big Iron. BigIron.com has grown so quickly that it is hard to believe it has been around for less than a year. If he isn’t scurrying around selling something he is looking at Airplanes online or trying to figure out Facebook.

He has been known to pick up a bowling ball, shoot some pool, Entertain himself on the Wii playing Blazing something or another (his Airplane challenge game), Cheer for the Huskers and watch some racin. Ron likes to fish when he can and hunt if it’s not too cold and do a little Bluerock shooting. However, I will tell you that Ron Stock is happiest doing what he loves and that is selling.

Speaking of flying, I took my first ever trip in the Cessna with Ron and needless to say it was kind of cool. Ron flew us home from an Auction in Oakley Kansas and it was fun seeing familiar things from the air, like Grand Island, US 30 Speedway and Duncan Lakes. I can say that I have seen the top of the roof of Menards in Columbus too ☺

I turned a big milestone birthday in April and Ron threw me one fun party at the Monroe Tavern. I was so surprised by the party and the fact that that many people actually liked me ☺ The whole time I thought our Duncan Lakes friends were simply going to take me on a road trip….yeah to Monroe. Thanks to each of you for everything…and especially to my Friend Cindy Sorensen. I would also like to thank my family for helping Ron keep it a surprise and get everything set up!! IT was a complete surprise to me. I felt like an idiot that I cried but I was sooooooo surprised.

As for me, you might find me following around my favorite wrestler, my Nephew Sheldon Boschen or sitting at a Newman Grove High School Football game watching him play football, seems weird to go back home and watch my old Bluejays play but it has been fun! I am a faithful follower of Facebook. I scrapbook when I can to ease my mind and let my creative side come out.

Typically if you can’t find the Stock’s (Cheerio included) you will find us at our favorite lakeside habitat….yes even in the winter!! Duncan Lakes, but in the summer we enjoy spending our weekends there and still trying to squeeze in a few Dirt track races here and there.

We didn’t travel as much in 2009 as we had in the past, most of the travel was for work and our fun travel was to our Annual NASCAR Race Weekend in Kansas in October.

and to Arlington to the Big 12 Championship Heartbreak game…….

We are really looking forward to 2010 as we are taking a trip to Cancun in January to celebrate a friend’s 50th Birthday. It will be nice to get to some warmth and some sand after such an early start to Winter this year.

Here is wishing every one of you a very very very Happy Holiday, a Husker win in the Holiday Bowl (hehehe) and a blessed a prosperous 2010!!

All our Love,

Ron and Kristin

Reflections, thoughts and other things......

that CHAP MY ASS:

My brother shared with me this article that was written prior to the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, Texas. I have never read anything so disgraceful! Mostly to the State of Texas for allowing someone to write these things and to My state....Nebraska. This guy either needs his balls hung from a tree (in a blizzard with a windchill of -35) or just a nice sweet Nebraska ass kickin...........

The next time you call Nebraska a nuisance......you might want to review some DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL STATUS you moron!

I am soooooooooooooooo sick of people wondering why we are all so upset about Saturday's game? Well geez uzz...have you been under a rock? We love Nebraska. We love the Huskers. We love Football in particular....NO it isn't the ONLY thing to do in Nebraska but it is a tradition. SO why should we not be excited that we had the biggest upset of the year coming on and lost it.......

NO one can tell me that ANY other Big 12 Team or their fans would have acted any differently put in the same situation. Imagine, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Colorado or Oklahoma State in the same situation and reacting better???? NOPE........

I full heartly believe that Texas overlooked us! They had NO idea that we would show up to play. They were focused on Pasadena and their roses and they almost ended up with roses up Bevo's......................well......

there....I feel better!

Why should Texas have to deal with the nuisance from Nebraksa?

Why does Texas have to play Nebraska?

Yeah, I know, in the Big 12 the winner of the South Division has to play the winner of whichever stumble bum happens to end up on top of the North to decide the champ. This year the head mutt up north is Nebraska, which lost to Iowa State at home in Lincoln, which is a city — a rarity in Nebraska.

That Iowa State deal ought to be enough to call off the Texas game. Nobody loses to Iowa State. William & Mary, if Mary were in a bad mood, could whip Iowa State.

But not Nebraska. The 9-3 Cornhuskers lost to Iowa State 9-7 and had eight turnovers.

That's enough turnovers to open a bakery. Shouldn't that kind of performance against Iowa State disqualify anybody from a title game?

Maybe Nebraska gets extra points because of their unusual mascot. They have the only mascot named after a farm chore involving a vegetable. I like their on-the-field mascot, though. They have this person wearing an inflatable suit. It's a farm boy in overalls. The person in the suit can turn around inside it and stand on his head, turning the farm boy upside down. I know. I've seen it done. In Nebraska, this is considered the arts. I suspect you'd have to drive some distance in Nebraska to find a wind ensemble.

Still, I don't think undefeated Texas should have to bother with the smash-mouth Cornhuskers.

Yes, it's an old joke — that the N on the Nebraska helmets stands for knowledge. But it's worth repeating for tradition's sake. I find it annoying that Texas fans have to go all the way to Arlington to Jerry Jones' new stadium and spend time next to a bunch of Nebraska fans. Nebraska fans are pretty darn dull.

For football fans they're too nice and polite. You'd think they were watching tennis. When they leave the stadium after a loss, they simply file out and go home. Half the fun with college football is making the other fans miserable. You can't do it to Nebraska fans. They just suck it up and leave.

I know. I was at the 1996 Big 12 Championship game in St. Louis when Texas upset Nebraska, a 19-point favorite.

The Nebraska fans just walked quietly to their cars like they were coming out of knitting class.

I suspect one reason Nebraskans are so boring is that the state isn't exactly a tourist mecca. If you find yourself vacationing in Nebraska, seek professional help. It's the gateway to a lot of places you wish didn't have gates — like Iowa.

So can we just call this game off?

It was a heartbreaker.......

I think as long as I am alive I will remember the 2009 Big 12 Championship! I walked into Cowboys Stadium fully expecting to fall asleep during the 3rd Quarter. YES I will admit it, I thought it would be a rather...well run away. OK I admit...I WAS WRONG....W-R-O-N-G WRONG dead wrong.........reflecting upon tonight. This felt like a win! I have never walked away from a Nebraska loss feeling on top of the world like tonight. My heart is happy for the boys from Husker nation. Yeah I was pissed, but looking back and cooling off after a 20 minute walk..........

I have tried and tried to put into words what it means to me to be a Nebraskan. It goes way beyond any sport or team. Yeah I am from Nebraska. Nebraska born and raised and Nebraska's where I will stay.

Say what you want to about Coach Pelini. He's got fire. He's got spirit and I love it! He gets it. He gets what it means to be a part of one of the most treasured programs in College football. He knows what it means to the state of Nebraska. He gets what it is like to have the greatest fans in college sports.

I thought it was super cool that we were the "home" team. Our band played the National Anthem and they even played a little sirrus for us!!! When they showed the Nebraska video pre-game...I almost lost it. IT was awesome!

SO I will share some photos from Cowboys Stadium!

First, I "bumped" into Eric Crouch:

The Nebraska Band....really ticked a few of those Texas fans off that our Band got to do the National Anthem, but then again they are: "The Pride of all Nebraska" (these were not during the National Anthem...I don't take pictures during a National Anthem) :

It was a total packed house! They never said it was a sell out but I never saw an empty seat! Love the new Cowboys Stadium!! A few shots from inside:

Ron and Kristin will remember this night for a LONG TIME!!! Despite the score...who can complain about one of the best games of the college football season.
Ron and Kristin:

But in the end.......un real...lost by one point, with one second left to the 3rd ranked team in the Nation...IMPRESSIVE but heartbreaking!
